I used Compact Filing on two separate occasions…both times it was to scan in old family photos, and have them converted to digital and stored onto cd's. Patty did an amazing job both times. She has turned nearly 20 photo albums worth of photos into just a few cd's. It has saved us so much time and energy. We couldn't be happier with her services! It was so easy to turn the children's photos into a birthday slide show, and everyone had such a great time seeing all of those old memories up on a big screen.

I have a family bible with the records of births and marriages since 1870. The pages are very old and delicate and the ink used years ago is hard to read. Compact Filing run by Patty Voros was able to scan the pages of this bible. Since she was able to increase the size of the pages I am now able to read the writing. She scanned the information on to a disk plus she e-mailed the documents to my computer. I was able to read all the entries and send the information to family members. I am very pleased.

I am so glad that friends encouraged me to have a slide show made of some of my father's slides. I found pictures that he and my mother had taken over the last 50 years. With a sampling of pictures of friends, family, and events such as cocktail parties, hikes and holidays; Patty made a very memorable slide show. My father was so surprised and delighted. How long should I keep documents?

The Seattle Times answered this question in the paper several days ago in an article about paper shredding. "The state Attorney General’s Office suggests good candidates for such disposal include tax records more than 7 years old, pay stubs and bank statements more than 1 year old and home-purchase or sales information more than 6 years old."

Are electronic records legal in the state of Washington?

According to Washington state code WAC 308-124C-030, alternative storage records may be stored on permanent storage media, such as optical disk or microfilm, provided the retrieval process does not permit modification of thedocuments.

What type of file format does Compact Filing use?

We usually scan files in a multi page tiff format for documents and tiff or jpg for photos. We can also into scan other formats including pdf. Please contact us if you have specific needs or questions.

I don’t want my paper documents back after they have beenscanned. What should I do with them?

We work with a commercial shredder who will shred all documents once scanned. There is an additional charge for this service.

How much information can I expect to get onone CD or DVD?

As many as 15,000 pages (the equivalent of a four drawer filing cabinet) can be contained on a single CD-ROM disc or up to 70,000 images on a single DVD-ROM disc.

Can you scan bound or damaged documents?

Paper that has been damaged and cannot be fed through a document feeder must be scanned on a flatbed scanner. We specialize in custom projects, contact us with the condition and size of your documents for a quote.
